This is the page where you will type any questions you have about the course, assignments, wiki, Idol favorites, whatever you need help with, and need a response. Each of you should make it a habit of checking here to give help and get help :)
Hints:
1. I strongly suggest that you do all of your initial typing into a Word document and then copy and paste into the message box within the Discussion Tab. That way you have a record of all the work you have completed for the course, just in case. You can just add each new essay/post to the same continuous document.
2. To edit or add something to a page, click on . You will then be taken to a screen with an editing toolbar. You can modify text using bold, italics and underlining as well as adding numbered lists and bullets as you would in Word.
To insert a link, click on . To remove the link, click on the one with a broken link. If you roll over the icons, the tag will identify what they do.
To add a file or image, click on . Browse and upload. Then to place the image or file in the page, place the cursor in the page where you want it added and double-click on the file in the open window.
To add a video, or song, or other HTML, click on icon which houses all the widgets. You will have to play with this one to see the drop down menu for each widget .
3. If you are feeling adventurous, to add a page to the wiki click on the add page link at the top left above recent changes and manage space. You will be prompted to name the page. Then the page will open and ask you to add content. Follow the above procedures. When you are done, click Save. To add a link to the page to the Navigation Bar (the list to the left), click on "edit navigation" located at the bottom of the list. A page will open with all the links listed. Type your page name exactly as you created it and inside two sets of brackets . Then save the navigation page and you are done.
4. You will normally just add your short essay response to the questions and your responses to your peers' entries by clicking on the Discussion Tab at the top of the page. To post your own message, just put the text in the message box. Remember to use a subject line that will identify you and the title of your piece. To respond to another's writing, click on there entry and then a message box will appear for you to respond to that post.
Okay, all you have to do is click on the assignments button. Then in week one you will click on Plot and Point of View. The questions are at the top of the page under Writing Assignment. Once you have read the story and written the essay, then clck on the Discussion tab at the top of that page just as you did here. Paste/type your response into the box comes up and when finished click post. In order to read other responses in the Discussion Tab, click on the title to the left and not the log in name. Then the post will come up and a box to respond. respond in the message box and click post. You should then see your response under their post. I emailed everyone to ask if one more "how to" session in the evening would benefit anyone - that i would be happy to have one??? Or you can come and see me in my office and I will walk you through one entire post. Let me know.
